Kea JR Custom Fountain Pen

SORRY! This pen isn't ready yet. As the name suggests, I'm working on a smaller version of the KEA.
I plan the pen to be about 5" long, and proportionally smaller to the full size version with a smaller #5 nib.

A
bout the Kea JR:
The Kea JR is a smaller downsized version of the KEA, so it carries the same name as its full size parent. The Kea is named after Mauna Kea, one of the Hawaiian mountain peaks. While Everest is officially the highest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea located on the island of Hawaii is actually the tallest. It's listed as the third tallest, only because most of it is under water, and thus not counted in its total height. This pen is so named because of the tall tapered finial.

Kea JR Dimensions:
The Kea JR has an overall length of 5" to 5 5/8". The JR has smaller diameter threads (10mm instead of 12mm), as well as a smaller clip. The standard JR uses a #5 nib, but you can upgrade your pen with a larger #6 nib, but the cap length will be longer.

As with all other JEB's PENs, the Nazca can be ordered in any of the materials shown or you can choose your own material to make the pen unique (if you email me I can send links for you to review the material available). The pen can be ordered with or without a clip. Finishes available for the standard JR clip are nickel and 24k gold. However you can also choose one of the other clips styles if you don't care for the stock clip (as long as the clip's ring is size compatible). The Nazca JR uses a Cartridge/Converter (C/C) inking system, or can be upgrade to a button filler (I'm also working on piston and lever fillers that I eventually hope to offer). If you prefer eyedroppers, the pen could also be ordered with a special rubber o-ring that would seal the section to the barrel so the barrel can be filled directly with ink. Nib finishes available are 2-tone, polished steel, Black Oxide (#6 only), or Ruthenium (#5 only). Current tip sizes are fine, medium, broad, and italic and 1.1 and 1.4 (#5 only) or 1.5 (#6 only).

Kea Options and Upgrades:
Like it's parent, the Kea JR could also be ordered with metal accent bands at various locations. You can add just one to the rear of the section for just a little touch of flash, or add one at the end of the barrel (using a threaded blind-cap). The cap posting shown on some pens is also an upgrade, so if you prefer to post your cap, please be sure to let me know so this can be added to your pen while I'm turning the barrel.

I also offer a variety of hand-made Pen Props and Pen Buttons. You can order a Pen Prop in a material to match your pen, or any one of the wooden styles made in a variety of stained and dyed colors. The Pen Buttons are available for any of the clipless pens.

About this Pen and Material:

This pen is made as a CLIPLESS. Since the cap doesn't require a clip, it's made in one piece. It also has a different set of threads than is usually used on a pen. The threads are coarse, and single-start. The advantage of the single start threads is that it allow the pen to be capped with a lesser number of threads allowing the threads to be a shorter length. The pen uses a #6 nib and is a cartridge/converter (C/C).

This material is an Acrylic Acetate called "Crushed Shell". As you can see, it's so called because of the color and pattern. The pattern is called CRUSH because it's made up of small "crushed" pieces of acrylic. It's made by first making a batch of solid color acrylic. Then it's crushed up before putting back into a mold. Once the crushed pieces are placed in the mold, it's filled again with another solid color. Once it cures, you have a solid piece of material with the crushed pattern. It creates a very vibrant color, so it's a very popular pattern. You'll see several other colors used on my pens. Some use the same color for both the base and the crushed chips, (like the Orange, Cranberry Red, and Sapphire Blue), while others such as this Crushed Shell use two different colors.
