A
bout the Name:
This pen is named after the Rimo Muztagh mountain range, it is one of the most remote sub ranges of the Karakoram range in northwestern India (it is also claimed by Pakistan). The range has several summits under the same name, and the area was little-known, and almost entirely unvisited until the late twentieth century with none of the summits ever being successfully ascended. The first visits to the area were made in 1914 and 1929 respectively. The first climbing attempt (to Rimo massif) was not made until 1978, but was unsuccessful. An attempt to climb Rimo IV was made in 1985, but was also unsuccessful. So to date, none of the peaks have ever been ascended successfully.

About the Rimo:
I had several goals in mind for this pocket pen: first, I wanted to offer one that came standard with a larger #6 nib; second, I wanted one pen that wouldn't require the cap to be posted in order to use it; and third, I wanted one with a smoother more streamlined look, similar to the mass produced snap-cap pens that didn't have capping threads.

Rimo Dimensions:
The target length I've been using for the pocket pens has been 4". With a 2 1/4" long target for the barrel length and 1 3/4" target length for the cap, it puts the RIMO right at 4". But since the pen is shaped by hand, it can end up slightly longer (this one with the extended no-post cap ended up at 4 1/8"). If you want one under 4", unless you have small hands and can handle a shorter pen with posting the cap, then you should order it with the shorter barrel with the post tenon. The target diameter is just under 5/8". At these specs, the weight (without ink and including the mini squeeze converter) will be 18-20 gms using most standard acrylics.

Rimo Options and Upgrades:
Besides wanting to offer a pocket pen that would have a number of standard features, one of my goals for the RIMO was also to offer a pen that could be further customized for those that like to create their own unique pens. So besides the features already mentioned, I also tried to offer the RIMO so if desired, one could select from a variety of options and create their own pen.

1. Inking: The RIMO comes standard with THREE inking options: a) standard disposable cartridges. With the longer barrel, the pen will accept both the short and long cartridges; b) Just like the PFP,it has an o-ring on the front section for an air tight seal against the barrel, so it can be used as an Eyedropper (filling the barrel directly with ink); and c) for those that want to use bottled ink, but want a more secure option over the eyedropper method, it will also include a mini squeeze converter.

2. Nibs: As mentioned the RIMO comes standard with a larger #6 nib, but it can also be ordered with a smaller #5 nib if desired. And if you were looking for a shorter length pen, the smaller nib would allow for making a slightly shorter cap. So if you think the standard RIMO is a little too long for your taste, you can order it with a #5 nib and a shorter cap.

3. Posting and Barrel Length: As I also mentioned, I made this pen with a longer 2 1/4" barrel so the pen had enough length that it didn't require posting. But if you want the cap to post I can add a short press fit tenon on the end of the barrel so the cap can be posted. And if you do want the posting option, since the length isn't an issue, you could also order it with a shorter 2" (or shorter) barrel instead. Just keep in mind that if you want to order a barrel shorter than 2", the mini squeeze converter will no longer fit because it requires a MINIMUM of a 1 7/8" long barrel.

I'm pleased to be able to offer this latest pocket pen. If you would like to place an order, or have any additional questions about it, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'll look forward to hearing from you!

I also offer a variety of hand-made Pen Props and Pen Buttons. You can order a Pen Prop in a material to match your pen, or any one of the wooden styles made in a variety of stained or dyed colors. The Pen Buttons are available for any of the clipless pens. Other new items available are cuff-links and button covers. Both can be ordered with acrylic centers that match your pen.
