The first is Black PVD. PVD is a special COATING that makes the nib completely black. In the past black nibs had Ruthinium or Black Oxide coating. The coating were thin, so the film could be uneven. The black PVD nibs have a beautiful smooth mirror like finish.

I wasn’t familiar with PVD coatings, so I did a little research to aquaint myself with it. PVD stands for ‘Physical Vapor Deposition’ which is a process that creates thin, hard coatings on surfacew by vaporizing a solid material in a vacuum. PVD coatings are typically between 0.5 and 5 microns thick, and can be applied to a variety of materials, including glass, ceramics, plastics, and metals.

Rose gold finishes have been around a long time, but it only began to appear on pens a few years ago. Rose gold is a redder gold, hence the name.

Rose gold is a nice color, but unfortunately (at least for now) matching bands or clips aren’t available. So the rose gold nid would work on a clipless.

Rose gold nibs are available in all the tip sizes: EX, F, M, B and 1.1 & 1.5 italic.

Cost wise their about 20% more expensive over the yellow gold, but well worth the additional cost if you’re looking for something unique.

Flex nibs aren’t new. They’ve been around for ages, originating during the era of dip pens. They were originally made from gold because of its flexibility but in recent years, steel flex nibs have become fairly common. My Jowo supplier now stocks these in Fine and Extra Fine tip sizes (polished finish only).
