JEBs Manaslu Fountain Pen
About the JEBs Manaslu:
The Manaslu JEBs Manaslu fountain pen uses a unique externally mounted Art Deco-style clip. Most clip rings are mounted below the finial, either externally or internally (hidden). Very few clips are mounted externally. Other pen styles with similar clips are the CS 100 and 58. In fact, the CS 100 is one of my favorite CS pens, so I had the 100 pen in mind when I designed the Manaslu.
For a full-size pen, the Manaslu is short and stout. The clip is secured with a small, hand-made acrylic plug. The plug is usually made with the same material as the cap, but it can be made in a different color if desired.
About the name:
This pen is named after Manaslu, the eighth-highest mountain in the world. Also known as Kutang, it’s located in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalayas, in west-central Nepal. Manaslu means “mountain of the spirit,” and the word is derived from the Sanskrit word manasa, meaning “intellect” or “soul.” Manaslu was first climbed on May 9, 1956, by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu, members of a Japanese expedition. If you’d like to learn more about Manaslu, visit Wikipedia: Manaslu.
Manaslu dimensions:
The Manaslu is a shorter-styled pen, coming in at about 5 1/2″ long when capped, but it’s similar in diameter to the other larger pens. The uncapped length is about 5 1/8″. Maximum diameters are cap 5/8″ and barrel 9/16″.
Manaslu options and upgrades:
The Manaslu is another style that allows you a few upgrade options. You can add metal accent bands at various locations for a little additional touch of flash, such as at the base of the cap or the end of the barrel.
Material: As with most JEB’s Pens, the Manaslu can be ordered in one of the materials shown, or you can choose your own custom color and material.
Hardware: The Art Deco-style clip is available in antique gold only. And as shown in one of the photo’s, the Manaslu can be ordered with a 4 mm wide accent band at the base of the cap. Also, a matching gold accent band can be added behind the section.
Nib: It comes standard with a #6 steel nib in your choice of finishes and tip sizes. Current finishes available are: polished steel, 2-tone, and black oxide. Tip sizes available are: x-fine, fine, medium, broad, or 1.1 and 1.5 italic.
Inking system: Standard inking system is C/C (cartridge/converter). Other inking system options are eyedropper, button filler, bulb filler, or vacumatic. One of the photo’s shows the Manaslu made with the button filler system, complete with a matching acrylic button.
Rollerball option: As shown in one of the photo’s, the Manaslu (as well as most other pen styles) can be ordered as a rollerball pen. I have two different-style nose cones that can be used. The large cone, as shown, or a smaller cone with an acrylic extension. Together with the small nose cone, the length is about the same as that of the large nose cone.
Miscellaneous items:
I also offer a variety of hand-made pen-related items. Pen Props, pen cap Buttons, Pen and Ink Trays, Cufflinks, and Button Covers. Use a Pen Props to display a pen or temporarily raise the nib. Order in a pen-matching material or a wooden style in a variety of finishes. Cap Buttons are small pieces of cap jewelry you can add to a clipless pen to keep it from rolling. Use a Pen & Ink Trays to display your favorite pen and ink. Trays are available in several styles and in your choice of natural wood. Cufflinks and Button Covers are timeless favorites that dress up a shirt. Order them in pen-matching material.
