JEBs Dira Midi Fountain Pen

Dira Midi Fountain Pen Main Image

About the Dira:

The Dira midi fountain pen falls into the Midi or Jr. size category. The most prominent features are the small, compact size and the pinched clip with a working roller-ball. Because of its small size, the pen is very light.

This pen got it’s name from the DIRAN, a mountain in the Karakoram range in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. This 7,266-metre (23,839 ft) pyramid-shaped mountain lies to the east of Rakaposhi (7,788 m). The first climb on Diran was in 1968 by three Austrians: Rainer Goeschl, Rudolph Pischinger, and Hanns Schell. Earlier attempts by a German expedition in 1959 and an Australian expedition in 1964 were unsuccessful. To read more about Mount Diran, click here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diran.

I’m sure you noticed there’s no “n” at the end of the name. It’s not a typo! I did so because I’m trying to use only names that end in “a” for the midi pens. I ran out of actual mountain names that end in ‘a’, so I had to start getting a little creative with new names.

The Dira has an overall length of a little under 5 1/2″ capped and 4 11/16″ uncapped. The maximum diameter is 9/16″ at the cap base and 1/2″ behind the barrel threads. The barrel’s only length, not counting the threads, is 3″. A short, standard-size converter will just fit.

Nib: The Dira is fitted with the smaller #5 steel Jowo nib, which is a perfect size for the small pen. The #5 nibs are available in the same polished (PS) and gold-tone (AGS) finishes as the larger #6. Sometimes 2-tone nibs are available, depending on the tip size needed. 14k and 18k nibs are also available.

Inking Systems: Because of the small diameter and short length, the pen is only available as a C/C (cartridge/converter).
