About the Kea:
The pen is named after Mauna Kea, one of the Hawaiian mountain peaks. While Everest is officially the highest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea located on the island of Hawaii is actually the tallest. It's listed as the third tallest, only because most of it is under water, and thus not counted in its total height. This pen is so named because of the tall tapered finial.
The Kea has an average (capped) length of about 6". It can be ordered in any of the materials shown or you can select something different to make the pen your own. The clip is now available in nickel or 24k gold finishes. The pen uses a Cartridge/Converter inking system, but could be ordered with a special rubber o-ring that would seal the section to the barrel so it can be used as an eyedropper. It can be ordered with either a #5 or #6 nib. Nib finishes are 2-tone, polished steel, Black Oxide (#6 only), or Ruthenium (#5 only). Current tip sizes are fine, medium, broad, and italic and 1.1 and 1.4 (#5 only) or 1.5 (#6 only).
Kea Options and Upgrades:
The Kea is much like the Nazca in that you have quite a few upgrade options. You can add metal accent bands at various location on the pen, such as the section or finial for just a little touch of flash. Or you can add one or several to the base of the cap. I now have 24k gold bands in a variety of diameters and widths of 1, 2, 3, and 4mm. Inking systems currently available are cartridge/converter (C/C) and button-filler. Nib sizes are #5 or #6 (#6 standard), and finishes available are: polished steel, 2-tone, Ruthenium (#5 only) or Black Oxide (#6 only). Current tip sizes available are x-fine, fine, medium, broad, or two sizes of italic.
I also offer a variety of hand-made Pen Props and Pen Buttons. You can order a Pen Prop in a material to match your pen, or any one of the wooden styles made in a variety of stained and dyed colors. The Pen Buttons are available for any of the clipless pens.
About this Material:
This material is called Blueberry Mesh. It is so named because it has a small dotted pattern that mimics a berry. The STRAWBERRY (in RED) was the first of the pattern to come out, and then eventually a hole series was produced, but not all were named after berries. The strawberry was followed by this blueberry. The manufacturer eventually produced a whole gaggle of other colors (far too many to mention them all). So if you like the pattern, but would prefer a different color, you can inquire, because it's likely they make it. Unless the colors are tradmarked (these are not), the various vendors that sell the pen blanks usually give them their own special names to differentiate themselves, so some patterns may have different names, but are the same material. So this material--including the specific colors -- are sold under several different names.
